Open salar system

«Open Salar System», which encourages a reflection on the importance of the exchange of goods, is located on the highest point of the Gemmi Pass route in Switzerland. An oversized shelf made of wood has been fitted with large, sculptural-looking containers made of cement and salt. Salt was long a historical commodity that was transported across the Alps between the south and north. Today it is no longer of great importance as a commodity or currency; it is used to melt snow or in agriculture to supplement livestock feed. Now there are other important commodities such as oil and raw materials. But even these will be replaced by other value systems and goods in the future.
